Spelman College Scholarships

The Office of Admissions awards a limited number of merit-based scholarships to new incoming first-year students. Recipients are selected from a competitive pool of students based on the academic profile and details she submitted in her application.

The committee considers those who demonstrate strong academic performance and engagement in high school. This determination is based on the grade point average, standardized test scores, community service and leadership. To be considered, students must be in the top 20% of the applicant pool. The average GPA for scholarship recipients in the Fall 2022 incoming class was a 4.1 GPA.

Please note, Spelman College has suspended the standardized testing requirement for students applying for the class of 2027. All students will be considered for merit scholarships with or without test scores.

Students who have been awarded a scholarship are notified at the time of admission. The details of the scholarship are included in the admitted student packet. Spelman does not require a separate application process for merit-based scholarship consideration nor do students have to request to be considered.

The Bonner Scholarship, UPS Scholarship, and Ralph Lauren Scholarship are need-based scholarships and will require a separate application for consideration. Students must apply Early Action or Early Decision to be considered for any of the Civic Scholar Programs mentioned above.
