Rankings and Awards

Recognition from numerous entities shows that Spelman continues to be on the ascent as an academic institution focused on the success of its students. As the highest ranked institution from which Black women science and engineering doctorate recipients earn bachelor's degrees, according to the National Science Foundation, Spelman is a strong training ground for women who go on to careers in which they lead and excel.

Spelman College once again earned top spots on the U.S. News & World Report 2022 Best Colleges list.

2019: Spelman is included in the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2019 edition, labeled one of the Best and Most Interesting Four-Year Institutions

2018: Spelman is ranked 101 out of 1,054 colleges in the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Ed 2018 College Rankings.

2017: In a Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College survey, Spelman was ranked #3 for Students' Top Schools for Inspiration.

2016: The 2016 Open Doors report by the Institute of International Education ranked Spelman 29th among the top 40 baccalaureate institutions leading in study abroad in the United States.

2016: Spelman ranked as a Top Overall Producer of Gilman Scholars among small colleges.

2016: Spelman College has been ranked among the top 20 Best Women's Colleges 2016.

2016: Essence and Money Magazine rank Spelman #6 among top 50 colleges and universities in the country for Black students.

2015: Spelman ranked No. 1 among small schools that provide alumnae/i for the Teach for America corps.
