Federal Work-Study
Earn While You Learn
The Office of Financial Aid works with the Office of Career Planning and Development to provide opportunities for students to secure meaningful employment with on-campus and off-campus employers. Students in work-study positions can develop skills that can enhance their work experience and be used toward a future career.
What is Federal Work-Study?
Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a financial aid program that offers part-time employment opportunities to undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need. The program allows students to earn money by being paid for the hours they work. This money helps pay for educational expenses while gaining valuable work experience, often in community service or a related field of study. Students who participate in Federal Work-Study (FWS) can work up to 20 hours a week and funds are paid directly to the student.
Eligibility
- Students interested in participating in FWS must have remaining need as determined by their completion of the free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Must be enrolled at least half-time to participate in FWS.
- Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) and be in good standing with the College.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien.
Process for Finding a Job
Students who are awarded FWS must accept their aid before they can begin reviewing and applying for available jobs in the JobX portal. Students are not assigned work study positions, but must apply, interview and be hired. Student employees are required to complete an I-9 and a W-4 in the JobX portal prior to their first workday.
