Campus Construction Projects

With construction underway in several areas on campus, we want to take this opportunity to share important progress and timeline information related to these projects.

Campus Entry Notice - ( March 18, 2024 )



Traffic lanes will be reduced near the College's Westview Drive entrance (see below) due to construction surrounding the Center for Innovation & the Arts. During this period, the Greensferry Avenue entrance will be open for Faculty & Staff only during the following days and times for approximately the next month:

  • Mondays through Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Open for Classes January 2025

Following a groundbreaking ceremony in the spring of 2022, the Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D., Center for Innovation & the Arts is set to open for classes in January 2025.

Renovations of Abby and Morehouse-James Halls

The College plans to close both Abby and Morehouse James Halls in May 2024 and re-open them in August 2025. During this time, the College will:

  • Extend chilled water and hot water piping in the ground from the central plant to support these halls
  • Upgrade electrical supply from 2.4 kVa to 19.8 kVa
  • Install air conditioning to Abby and Morehouse-James Halls
  • Perform a comprehensive renovation to Morehouse James Hall

LaTanya Richardson Jackson and Samuel L. Jackson Performing Arts Center 
at the Rockefeller Arts Building
Opened for Classes January 17, 2024

 
Spelman College's Lorraine Hansberry Sculpture

The LaTanya Richardson Jackson and Samuel L. Jackson Performing Arts Center at the Rockefeller Arts Building is the new home of the Department of Theater and Performance and the Spelman College Glee Club. For the remainder of the academic year. Alison Saar’s sculpture, “To Sit a While” is located in front of the building.

 
 

West End Avenue Surface Parking Lot
Opened for Parking January 2024

 
Spelman College Parking Lot Completed

The card access-controlled West End Avenue Surface Parking Lot is currently in use for commuter parking and features 92 parking spaces, lighting, security cameras and EV charging stations.
