Spanish Major Requirements

The Spanish major at Spelman requires:

  • Nine courses above the 202 level for 36 credits
  • Service Learning while abroad or at Spelman for 2 credits
  • Capstone Project/Thesis Portfolio for 2 credits

Other Required Credits
SPA 300 and 301 – Service Learning Abroad or at Spelman
(1 credit each summer abroad or service learning associated with a course)

Study Abroad

Spanish major students may complete the Service Learning while abroad or at Spelman requirement with summer or semester abroad programs:

  • First summer abroad: 303 or 306 (+1 credit for service learning)
  • Second summer abroad: 351 or 352 or 353 or 354 (+1 credit for service learning)
    (5 credits each Summer)
  • Semester abroad: 2 courses at 350 or 450 level
    (language courses 303, 306, 306 must be taken at Spelman)
    (8 Credits Total)
