Spelman College Museum of Fine Art
Liz Andrews is a curator and arts administrator who has a decade of experience leading art museums and a longer curatorial career. Andrews has served as executive director of the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art since August 2021.
At Spelman, she has led the staff of the Museum, mounted and curated nationally-recognized exhibitions, hosted dynamic public programs and created opportunities for students to learn about art, curating, and collections care. She co-curated and spearheaded the tour of "Silver Linings: Celebrating the Spelman Art Collection," the first national tour of works from the College and Museum’s permanent collection.
She has successfully fundraised for the Museum exhibition program and collection, and the Museum was honored with the inaugural Bridgemaker Prize by the Art Bridges Foundation in 2025. Prior to leading the Spelman Museum, Andrews worked in the Director’s Office of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), where she co-curated "Black American Portraits," and co-edited and contributed to the exhibition book. Andrews was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Irving P. Andrews, and holds a B.A. from Wesleyan University, M.A. from NYU Tisch School of Arts, and Ph.D. in Cultural Studies from George Mason University. She is published under her full name, Myrtle Elizabeth Andrews.
