Bridging Creativity, Innovation and Community Engagement
The Mary Schmidt Campbell Center for Innovation and the Arts (CI&A) was purposefully designed to unite artistic expression and cutting-edge technology, while enriching the student experience and advancing Spelman’s legacy of excellence and innovation.
Named in honor of Spelman’s 10th president, who led the College for seven years (2015 to 2022), this state-of-the-art building embodies the vision of creating a dynamic space where Spelman’s students in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) can engage, collaborate, and innovate.

Spelman Forward Digital Brochure
The Division of Arts is the place where creativity becomes a catalyst for building community ultimately providing unique insight into diverse traditions, philosophies and history.
Through rigorous study and hands-on practice, students gain the knowledge and skills to create meaningful work while exploring art as a powerful form of visual communication shaped by history, culture, tradition, and emerging critical perspectives.
Our programs foster intellectual curiosity, creative experimentation, and a deep understanding of the ways art intersects with civic life, social systems, technology, and global communities.
Beyond developing as artists and scholars, students build entrepreneurial and professional skills that prepare them to lead, innovate, and thrive in the evolving creative economy.
