Homecoming Announcement:
From Sunday, Oct. 12 - Saturday, Oct. 18, Public Safety will have additional officers on duty, working 12-hour shifts to support various events. In addition, Contract Security will be present at all on-campus events to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Before You Go Out
- Have a plan: Decide on your events, transportation, and a meeting spot with your friends.
- Communicate: Share your plans and anticipated timeline with a trusted friend or family member.
- Charge your phone: Ensure your phone is fully charged so you can stay connected and call for help if needed.
- Know campus resources: Familiarize yourself with campus security, escort services, and the location of emergency phones or blue light kiosks.
- Understand event access logistics: There will be limited access to campus for the scheduled Homecoming events on the evenings of Sunday, October 12 and Tuesday, October 14 (No backpacks allowed for both events hosted on the oval).
While You're Out
- Stick together: Never walk alone; use a buddy system and stay with your group.
- Be aware of your surroundings: Pay attention to where you are, look for landmarks, and be aware of any suspicious activity.
- Watch your drinks: Don't accept open containers from strangers and never leave your drink or food unattended.
- Use safe transportation: Do not get in a car with someone who has been drinking. Use a designated driver, a rideshare service, or campus escort services.
- Trust your instincts: If you feel unsafe, change your route, find a crowded or well-lit area, or go to a public building for help.
At Your Residence
- Lock up: Always keep your residence hall doors, windows, and vehicle doors locked, even if you're only gone for a short time.
- Don't let strangers in: Do not allow anyone without an access card to follow you into your building.
In Case of Emergency
- Call 911: If you witness or experience any danger, call 911 immediately and follow instructions.
- Report suspicious activity: Don't hesitate to report anything that seems out of the ordinary to campus security or law enforcement.
