Chinese Studies
Program Overview
Chinese Studies is currently one concentration of Asian Studies minor. The program offers both language courses and content courses. Language courses offered include Elementary I & II, Intermediate Chinese I & II, and Advanced Chinese I & II. Content courses include Understanding Modern China, Introduction to Asian Studies (cross-registered), (and Chinese Brush Calligraphy).
Why study the language?
Mandarin Chinese is one of the most spoken languages in the world, and it is one of the Critical Languages in the United States. Studying Mandarin Chinese is crucial due to China's significant global economic and political influence. Mastery of Mandarin enhances career opportunities, facilitates cultural understanding, and strengthens diplomatic ties. It opens access to one of the world's richest historical and contemporary cultures, fostering global competency.
