Glee Club Auditions

Audition for the Spelman Glee Club

The Spelman College Glee Club is open by audition to all students of the Spelman College community. The Glee Club is the premier performance organization for the College and sings for most campus events. The Glee Club accepts members from various disciplines and varying levels of musical knowledge.

The Glee Club is considered a class and each member must be registered for one or non-credit hours. The Glee Club meets on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5 to 6:15 p.m.

Auditions

To become a member of the Spelman College Glee Club, an audition is required. Auditions for the Glee Club will take place during New Student Orientation prior to the start of classes in the fall semester.

The audition is an evaluation process that provides an opportunity for each student to demonstrate performance ability. All candidates will be examined for tonal memory, ability to match pitch and vocal quality. Vocal range may be determined in the audition as well. Though ability to read music is not required, sight-singing ability may also be evaluated. Candidates will be notified of acceptance prior to the first rehearsal.

Audition Tips

  • Make sure you read the ‘Glee Club Auditions’ page thoroughly so that you are prepared.
  • Be sure to practice. Ask your private teacher, conductor or parent for help to ensure you sound your best! We suggested that you record yourself singing in your audition space to get an idea what the evaluating faculty will see and hear.
  • Sometimes nerves can take over in an audition. Relax, and be yourself. We will ask you to introduce yourself. Please include your name, classification, major and hometown in your introduction. We may also ask you to share your experience and musical goals/aspirations.
