Many juniors, seniors and nontraditional students live off campus and commute anywhere from 10 to 40 minutes from campus. To help you balance academic, personal, work, social and community engagement responsibilities, we have special accommodations for you.
Our goal is to help you navigate the Spelman experience with ease and comfort. Students have access to monthly MARTA passes at a discounted rate, commuter meal plans options, lockers and a computer assistance center located in close proximity to the Commuter Student Lounge in the Manley Student Center. A comfortable place to study, relax or watch a few minutes of your favorite television show, the Commuter Student Lounge is a perfect place to go between classes, programs and events.
Lunch and Learn
The Office of Commuter Student Services also offers a popular "Lunch and Learn" series where you can meet faculty, staff and alumnae; participate in educational workshops; and partake of a healthy, free meal once a month.
At Spelman College, we also have a great shuttle service available from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. The shuttles will take you to and from the MARTA train station and around the Atlanta University Center Consortium. In addition to being convenient and safe, riding the shuttle is great way to save on gas.
Off-Campus Housing and the Commuter Student Association
If you are looking for housing options, we offer an off-campus housing fair to assist students with finding safe and affordable off-campus housing and roommates.
Commuter students are important members of the Spelman College community so let your voice be heard by joining the Commuter Student Association. Who knows? Maybe you’ll meet a new friend with whom you can carpool or find a buddy to chat with while you ride the train. We’re all about making your commute to campus and your Spelman experience more enjoyable.
