Student Life: Commuter Students

Commuter Students

Many juniors, seniors, and nontraditional students live off campus and commute anywhere from 10 to 40 minutes from campus.  For you, we’ve made special accommodations as we help you balance academic, personal, work, social and community engagement.

Our goal is to help you navigate the Spelman experience with ease and comfort.  Students have access to monthly MARTA passes at a discounted rate, commuter meal plans options, lockers, and a computer assistance center right down the hallway from the Commuter Student Lounge in Manley Center.   A comfortable place to relax, study, or watch your favorite television show, the Commuter Student Lounge is a perfect place to go between classes, programs and events.

The Office of Commuter Student Services also offers the Lunch and Learn series where you can meet faculty, staff and alumnae, participate in educational workshops, and get a good free meal once a month.  There’s also a great shuttle service available – 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. – to take you to and from the train station and around the Atlanta University Center Consortium, which is a great way to save on gas.  We’ll even help you find off-campus housing and a new roommate.  We offer an off-campus housing fair to assist students with finding safe and affordable off-campus housing.

Lastly, you can join the Commuter Student Association. Who knows? Maybe you’ll meet a new friend to participate in a carpool, or you can find a buddy to chat with while you ride the train. We’re all about making your commute to campus and your Spelman experience more enjoyable.
