Dr. Katie Geneva Cannon Speaks at Spelman

The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Spelman College will host a conversation with Dr. Katie Geneva Cannon,  the Annie Scales Rogers Professor of Christian Ethics at Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Virginia.

In 1974, Cannon became the first African-American woman to be ordained in the United States Presbyterian Church; and in 1983, she became the first African-American woman to earn the Doctor of Philosophy degree from Union Theological Seminary. Dr. Cannon's areas of focus are: Christian ethics, Womanist theology, and women in religion and society. The topic of her talk at Spelman is "Zora Neal Hurston: A Prophet of Possibilities."
