Sherina Maye Edwards is the former president and chief executive officer of INTREN, a subsidiary of MasTec (NYSE: MTZ), a $14B Fortune 500 utility infrastructure company as well as the former Chief Strategy Officer of MasTec where she led the evolution of the power delivery segment with multi-year strategic planning, integration and alignment across all entities, and acceleration of business results to drive growth and profitability.
Edwards is an experienced executive and corporate board member who has held a broad range of leadership roles - including executive, regulatory, and legal - that provide the breadth of experience and understanding required to lead innovative change.
In her role as CEO of INTREN, she led the company to a significant increase in operational efficiency, cost reductions, and safety excellence, resulting in record-breaking financial results. The company also expanded its national reach and scale, entered new markets, and grew its personnel to over 2,500 dedicated employees located throughout 12 regional offices. Most recently, she led the company through a $500M acquisition and served as the leader of the post-sale integration in addition to overseeing a buy-side acquisition of a vegetation management company.
Prior to joining INTREN, she served as an energy and utilities regulatory Partner at Quarles & Brady. Additionally, Edwards acquired extensive experience on issues impacting the energy and utility industry while serving a five-year term on the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) where she was charged with ensuring safe, reliable and affordable utility service to Illinois consumers.
Edwards has a unique level of regulatory experience including analyzing, formulating, and implementing public policy at the state and federal levels. She also led efforts to enhance legal education related to public utility regulation, examining new regulatory methods by which rate case expenses could be recovered to mitigate impact on ratepayers and reducing overall costs, and leading efforts to promote supplier diversity among investor-owned utilities
In 2016, Edwards was appointed by President Barack Obama and U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Anthony Foxx as Co-Chair of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Voluntary Information-Sharing System Working Group, where she provided recommendations to the Secretary of Transportation on the protection of proprietary and security-sensitive information.
Edwards is nationally recognized for championing diversity and inclusion within the utility and energy sector and her leadership led to the creation of the Illinois Utilities Business Diversity Council. Additionally, Edwards serves on the board of directors for SouthWest Water Company, a water utility based in Houston, Midland States Bank (NYSE: MSBI), a community based financial holding company based in Illinois and Northwestern Energy (NASDAQ: NWE) an electric and gas utility based on Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Edwards is a graduate of Howard University’s School of Law and a cum laude graduate of Spelman College where she received her B.A. in Psychology.
