Jennifer James serves as the Recruiting Coordinator at Spelman College’s Office of Career Planning and Development. In this capacity, Jennifer is the main liaison for employers and recruiters interested in engaging Spelman College students through various recruiting avenues such as on-campus and virtual events, workshops, as well as job and internship opportunities. She actively participates in recruitment sessions and career fairs across different HBCU sites, attracting qualified undergraduate students and alumni candidates. Utilizing the Handshake portal, Jennifer manages interview scheduling for employers, approves employers, jobs, and events. Additionally, she plays a pivotal role in marketing recruiting events and career opportunities to Spelman students by distributing a Weekly Recruitment Newsletter via email blast and social media platforms every Friday.
Originally from Jamaica, West Indies, Jennifer relocated to New Jersey where she earned a Professional Technical Diploma in Information Technology Administration from Computer Learning Institution. With a wealth of experience spanning decades in the Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical, and Higher Education sectors, Jennifer held various roles, including Sales Analyst at Amersham Pharmacia Biotech for over 15 years. There, she collaborated with team members to develop sales report models, analyze sales trends, and forecasts, enhancing efficiency and saving time.
During her tenure with Sanofi Aventis and Alpharma Pharmaceuticals, where she served as Executive Administrative Assistant and Database Coordinator respectively, Jennifer managed critical program functions supporting Clinical Trials Monitoring Systems and Data Flow over a combined six years.
Jennifer’s dedication to Higher Education led her to Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, where she spent seven years focusing on operations support for Nutritional Sciences Education programs, primarily serving underserved communities. Eventually, Jennifer relocated to Georgia and joined the CPD team at Spelman College, the esteemed #1 HBCU, continuing her commitment to student success and career development.
