Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, Dana Lloyd developed her passion for nursing at the age of 14 years old when her maternal grandmother had a massive stroke. After high school, she attended Louisiana State University where she received a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing with a family nurse practitioner focus.
Lloyd became a caregiver for her grandmother who required 24-hour care that included giving scheduled medications, insulin injections, tube feedings and full hygiene care. She also thrived in her profession and worked in many areas as a nurse practitioner including family practice, urology and women’s health.
Currently the director of the Student Health Services Department at Spelman College, Lloyd serves as one of five CPR, first-aid and AED instructors in the department.
A wife and proud mother of a incredible son, she is passionate about the medical services provided to the students by the Student Health Services Department. Her zeal for nursing has been heighten in this role to help promote health and prevent diseases in the college-age population.
