Dr. Bryant Bailey is a public health professional dedicated to advancing health equity and inspiring the next generation of scientists and leaders. A proud HBCU graduate, he began his academic journey at Norfolk State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He went on to receive a Master of Public Health and a Doctorate in Public Health (DrPH) specializing in Social Epidemiology from Mercer University.
Over the past six years, Dr. Bailey has gained extensive experience in research, public health practice, and laboratory science, including roles as a Senior Research Assistant at Morehouse School of Medicine, a biologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and a public health consultant. His work has focused on understanding and addressing the social determinants of health, with factors such as income, education, housing, and access to care—that shape health outcomes in underserved communities.
This is Dr. Bailey’s first-time teaching at Spelman College, and he is excited to bring his professional expertise into the classroom. He was drawn to Spelman’s mission of educating and empowering women of African descent and looks forward to contributing to an environment that nurtures intellectual curiosity, resilience, and leadership.
Dr. Bailey enjoys engaging with students because it provides an opportunity to share real-world applications of scientific concepts and help them see how their studies connect to pressing public health challenges. He aims to create a learning environment that is both challenging and supportive, encouraging students to think critically, ask questions, and explore how social conditions influence health and well-being.
His research interests include the impact of economic stability, healthcare access, and other social determinants of health on chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes in African American communities. Dr. Bailey is passionate about research that informs community-based interventions and public policies to reduce health disparities.
