Everything You Need to Know
Why is the Spelman Messenger now published annually?
After thoughtful consideration, Spelman College transitioned the Spelman Messenger from a twice-yearly publication to an annual edition. This change allows us to thoughtfully steward financial and staffing resources while continuing to produce a high-quality publication that celebrates the College, our alumnae, and our community.
How are the cover story, cover photo, and annual theme selected?
Each edition is developed collaboratively by the College with guidance from the Spelman Messenger Editorial Advisory Committee. Together, they consider institutional priorities, major milestones, noteworthy achievements, and stories that best reflect the impact, excellence, and spirit of Spelman College during the year.
I made a gift this year. Why don’t I see my name on the donor roll?
The donor rolls recognize donors by fiscal year, not by calendar year.
- FY24 Donor Roll: Gifts made between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024
- FY25 Donor Roll: Gifts made between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025
If you made your gift between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026, your name will appear in the upcoming FY26 Donor Roll.
Why is my name listed differently than I expected?
Donor names are listed according to Spelman College's donor recognition guidelines. For example, alumnae are generally listed by their current last name in College records, without titles or salutations, and certain donor groups follow specific recognition conventions.
How do I update my name, class year, or other personal information for future donor rolls?
To update how your name or class year appears in future donor rolls, please submit your changes on the Etrive Form 245.
Submit Changes - Etrive Form 245
How are donors recognized in the donor roll?
Donors are recognized in the section that best reflects their relationship to Spelman (such as alumnae, parents, trustees, faculty and staff, friends, or organizations). Recognition may also include giving society symbols, True Blue status, matching gifts, or donor-advised fund recognition, as applicable.
What if I believe my gift is missing from the donor roll?
If you believe a qualifying gift made during the applicable fiscal year has been omitted, please contact spelmanmessenger@spelman.edu so our team can review your giving record. Please note that the donor rolls recognize donors by fiscal year, not by calendar year. For example:
- FY24 Donor Roll: Gifts made between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024
- FY25 Donor Roll: Gifts made between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025
If you made your gift between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026, your name will appear in the upcoming FY26 Donor Roll.
Why are the FY24 and FY25 donor rolls available digitally, while the printed edition only includes the FY25 donor roll?
As the Spelman Messenger transitions to an annual publication, both the FY24 and FY25 donor rolls are available digitally to ensure timely recognition of our generous supporters. This year's print edition includes the FY25 donor roll, keeping the publication focused on the College's most recently completed fiscal year.
How can I submit a class note, accomplishment, milestone, in memoriam notification, or story idea?
We welcome submissions from our alumnae community. You may submit class notes, personal and professional accomplishments, milestones, in memoriam notifications, and story ideas.
Messenger Submissions
Does submitting a story guarantee it will appear in the magazine?
While we appreciate every submission, inclusion is not guaranteed. Stories are selected based on available space, editorial priorities, relevance, and alignment with the theme of each issue.
When is the deadline to submit content for the next issue?
Submissions for the next edition of the Spelman Messenger should be received by October 31, 2026.
Who can I contact if I have additional questions?
If you have questions about the Spelman Messenger, donor recognition, or submissions not addressed here, please contact spelmanmessenger@spelman.edu.
