The Barry Goldwater Foundation awards scholarships to undergraduate students interested in the natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering. Sophomores and/or juniors who plan to conduct research during their junior and/or senior semesters are eligible to apply. **Please be advised that Goldwater recipients MUST use the award to fund four (4) semesters of study for junior recipients and two (2) semesters of study for senior recipients.**  NO EXCEPTIONS.

How to Apply

The application process consists of online submissions to the Goldwater site (Profile, Pre-Application, Full Application) and the internal submission to the Spelman Committee. First complete the Student Profile and Pre-Application on the Goldwater website by the first Monday in October.  Also complete the Domestic Competitive Awards Eligibility form.

 

Once your eligibility is confirmed and your Goldwater Pre-application is accepted by Spelman's Review Committee, you will be prompted to complete a full application via the Goldwater website. You will also be sent a link to the Prestigious Awards Canvas page where you will submit your application materials, listed below, by the fourth Monday in October. You are encouraged to work with a Faculty Mentor during the application process.

 

Your supporting materials should be uploaded to the Goldwater section of the Prestigious Awards Canvas page as PDFs and must include:

  • The full application from the Goldwater site
  • Copy of unofficial transcript
  • Current resume

 

Recommendations

Three letters of recommendation. You provided recommender information on the eligibility form and on the Goldwater site. They will receive a link from us to upload their recommendation letter. Please confirm their ability to provide a letter on your behalf and let them know the letters are due the last Friday in October. Applicants do not manage the recommendation process.

 

Interviews

  • Interviews are scheduled in early November. The Spelman Committee can select four (4) scholars to advance to the Goldwater Foundation for the final selection process. Spelman is your primary point of contact, DO NOT contact the Goldwater Foundation directly regarding the fellowship.
