Abeni Hemmings, C’2025, will graduate magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts in economics and a minor in naval science. While at Spelman, Hemmings participated in the Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
As a midshipman in the Morehouse Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Program, Hemmings has held several top leadership positions, including battalion commanding officer, executive officer, academic officer, and special services officer. She currently ranks number one in her NROTC class.
Her leadership and service have been recognized through numerous accolades. She has earned honors such as the Empowering Justice Leading Legacy Award, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Award, the Military Excellence Award, the American Legion Scholastic Excellence Award, a Golden Thirteen Scholarship nomination, and two National Defense ROTC Medals from the National Society Daughters of the American Colonist.
Beyond her academic and military achievements, Hemmings is a Spelbound sister, a participant in the HBCU Founders Initiative (HBCUFI) Pre-Accelerator Program, and the founder and CEO of Flora Pearl Beauty—a self-care brand dedicated to empowering women through natural beauty and holistic wellness. Hemmings will be commissioned as an officer in the United States Naval Service. She plans to pursue a career as a civil rights attorney, continuing her unwavering commitment to leadership, service, and justice.
