HCOPPP Scholar: Zoe Lacey

A Vision for Inclusive Healthcare

Zoe Lacey, C’2026, is a psychology major and pre-med student who is passionate about dermatology, public health, and global health equity. She is dedicated to addressing disparities in dermatological care for people of color, focusing on conditions disproportionately affecting melanated skin while promoting cultural competency in medicine.

As a Humphrey Global Health Fellow at Emory University, Lacey engages in cross-cultural exchanges and mentorship with global health leaders, expanding her worldwide understanding of public health disparities. She also serves as treasurer for the Society of Cosmetics at Spelman College, advocating for safe, sustainable skincare products and educating students on harmful chemicals in beauty products.

Lacey’s commitment to research is evident in her participation in the inaugural cohort of the FSU-American Psychological Association Summer Scholars Program, where she researched math anxiety interventions for children. Additionally, Lacey plans to present her ongoing research on maternal health disparities among pregnant African American women at the Southeastern Psychological Association (SEPA) conference later this month.

Recently, Lacey expanded her global perspective during a Spelman-sponsored spring break trip to Barbados, where she networked with Ross University School of Medicine faculty and students, attended medical lectures, and explored international healthcare systems through her research project.

Beyond academics, Lacey is committed to service and the promotion of health literacy and wellness, serving as an organizing committee member for the 2024 Annual Adrienne Bauduit Health Fair, volunteering through various organizations in her home community, and continuing her dedication to health advocacy through on-campus organizations such as the Minority Association for Premedical Students (MAPS), the Health Careers Club, and the Health Careers Program. With a strong leadership, research, and service foundation, Lacey aims to advance equity in dermatological care and contribute to a more inclusive healthcare system.
