Parker Chambers, C’2026, is an economics major with a minor in public health from Pasadena, California. She has an immense passion for healthcare access, social justice, and policy reform. As an HCOPPP scholar, Chambers has been an Advocate Health Scholar and currently serves as an Emory University Humphrey Global Health Fellow.
Over the summer, Chambers has interned at the Family Health Center (FHC) in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she discovered her passion for healthcare management and policy, particularly in addressing the coverage gap. At FHC, she witnessed firsthand how community health centers support patients disproportionately impacted by the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). Her experience reinforced the importance of empathy as a provider, innovation as a leader, and advocacy as a change agent in healthcare.
Her growing interest in public health and systemic inequities led her to become a Georgia Women’s Policy Institute Fellow, where she serves as team lead for the Medicaid Expansion group, advocating for expanded Medicaid coverage in Georgia. Complementing her policy work, Chambers was selected as a Rackham Aspiring Fellow at the University of Michigan, where she conducted yearlong empirical research analyzing the impact of Medicaid expansion post-Affordable Care Act on young adults' health status and healthcare utilization.
As a driven and ambitious student, Chambers is dedicated to expanding awareness of diverse healthcare career paths beyond traditional roles like physician, nurse, or dentist. She serves as vice president of the Health Careers Club and co-founder and co-president of Spelman Future Public Health Leaders (SFPHL). Through her leadership in the Health Careers Club, Chambers successfully launched an internship program, created the parliamentarian position to enhance structure and accountability, and helped establish specialty committees in healthcare management. With SFPHL, she has worked alongside her executive board to organize panels featuring public health professionals, develop networking opportunities with graduate schools through the “Pathways in Public Health” series, and advocate for a stronger public health presence at Spelman College to meet the growing interest and demand for the field.
Beyond her leadership in public health and healthcare advocacy, Chambers is an active member of the Health Careers Program and has held roles as a peer assistant leader/orientation leader, Braven Ambassador, and an executive board member of the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS), where she served as the Student National Medical Association Chapter liaison. She also spent a semester as a proud member of the esteemed Spelman College Glee Club.
Outside of academics and professional development, Chambers is committed to community service. She volunteers with SpelREADS, helping students improve their reading skills using the BookNook platform, and now serves as a site lead to further the program’s mission.
Chambers’ ultimate career goal is to work in global healthcare management and policy, focusing on expanding healthcare access in the United States through a universal healthcare system. After graduating in Spring 2026, she plans to pursue a Master’s in Healthcare Management and Policy, focusing on Global Health, equipping herself with the knowledge and experience needed to drive meaningful change in healthcare accessibility and equity.
