Jardyn Augustus, C'2027, is a health science major on the pre-dental track from New Orleans. At Spelman, Augustus serves as the fundraising chair of Operation Smile, leading initiatives to support life-changing oral-facial reconstructive surgeries for children. She is also the mentorship chair of Utopia Atlanta, where she implements numerous mentorship initiatives for middle and high school students in Atlanta communities. Additionally, she is the outreach coordinator of the Pre-Dental Society, organizing events to promote oral health awareness in underserved communities.
As an Health Career Opportunities Pipeline Preparation Program (HCOPPP) scholar, Augustus actively pursues opportunities to address healthcare disparities in dentistry. She participated in the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine under the mentorship of Dr. George E. Jenkins, DMD, gaining valuable clinical exposure while deepening her understanding of public health, narrative medicine, health disparities, and core STEM subjects. Augustus also completed an internship at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, collaborating with current dental students to learn best practices for crafting a competitive dental school application.
