Janae Shaw, C'2026, is an economics major on the pre-law track with a public health minor at Spelman College, and she has a strong commitment to health law and public policy. As a Health Career Opportunities Pipeline Preparation Program (HCOPPP) scholar, Shaw has actively participated in healthcare career events, attended seminars, and received mentorship from healthcare professionals, which has further solidified my passion for addressing healthcare disparities.
Shaw's dedication to advocacy and policy is reflected in my involvement with the Georgia Women's Policy Institute Fellowship and the Spelman Social Justice Program, where she contributed to developing a policy proposal to improve the Georgia Pathways Program. She also serves as a Social Justice Associate, focusing on initiatives that promote equity and justice in healthcare, education, and economic empowerment.
In collaboration with the American Cancer Society and the Vision Community Foundation, she had the opportunity to serve as a Health Equity Ambassador, advocating for increased awareness and improved health outcomes in underserved communities. Shaw's passion for legal and policy work also led her to intern for a State Senator, where she contributed to legislative initiatives and engaged in policy research.
Shaw's leadership roles include serving on the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity's Executive Board and participating in the Humphrey Fellowship Program, which provides mentorship and professional development opportunities. Shaw aspires to become a health law attorney and is committed to positively impacting the healthcare sector.
