HCOPPP Scholar Eniola Omogbai

HCOPPP Scholar Eniola OmogbaiEniola Omogbai, C'2027, is a second-year international student at Spelman College, majoring in biology on the MD-Ph.D. track. Originally from Lagos, Nigeria, Omogbai has been actively engaged in research since her first year, including a summer spent with the UCLA-HBCU Neuroscience Pathways Program, where she studied the effects of sex chromosomes on sleep response to stress. This research has been presented at the ABRCMS 2024 Conference and the South-Eastern Medical Scientist Symposium.

Omogbai also conducts research at Spelman with Dr. Nichols-Obande and Dr. Kimberly Williams. Her passion for Black women’s maternal health and mortality in Africa and its diaspora drives her research, which aims to address pressing questions on this issue from both a scientific and social policy perspective. In addition to her scientific pursuits, Omogbai serves as a Spelman Social Justice Associate and a Georgia Women’s Policy Institute Fellow.

She is dedicated to educational equity and co-founded Girls Work It Together (GWIT), an organization with nearly 200 members focused on combating gender inequality in education and promoting holistic growth for young girls and women in Nigeria. Omogbai is also a SpelREADS guide, contributing to increased literacy engagement within Atlanta Public Schools. As a Millennium Fellow, she furthered her commitment to educational equity through leadership and community-driven initiatives. As a Queens Commonwealth 2022 Silver Award recipient, when she’s not immersed in research or advocacy, Omogbai enjoys the critical issues for which she deeply cares
