As an Health Career Opportunities Pipeline Preparation Program (HCOPPP) scholar at Spelman College, Cameryn Thorpe, C'2027, is dedicated to advancing public health and healthcare equity. Thorpe serves as a volunteer and ambassador for the Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia, advocating for increased awareness and support for individuals affected by the disease. Additionally, Thorpe is an active member of the Medical Association of Pre-Medical Students, where she engages in professional development and networking opportunities to further her aspirations in medicine.
Thorpe's research focuses on the intersection of environmental factors and chronic disease, and she has had the privilege of presenting her work at the annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS), highlighting the impact of environmental conditions on public health disparities, like Sickle Cell Disease.
