1. Alumna Trustee Interest Statement
Attending Spelman College was one of the most formative experiences in shaping who I am as a woman, a leader, and a professional. From the moment I heard about Spelman, my heart was set on attending it was literally Spelman or bust. It would be my honor and privilege to work with those who are shaping the priorities, policies, and investments of the place that has so profoundly shaped my life.
Being a Spelman College alumna is one of my biggest points of pride. Serving as an Alumna Trustee represents a natural extension of my commitment to ensuring the health and welfare of the College for generations to come. I am as concerned about the financial health of the College and the growth of the institution, as I am about the holistic well-being of our students - present and future. I regularly connect with the past, present, and future of Spelman through fellow alumnae, current, and prospective students. I am in a unique position to bring a historical, current, and forward-thinking perspective to the Board of Trustees. I would be honored to contribute thoughtful leadership, strategic insight, and authentic alumna representation to the Board's work. For 145 years, Spelman has been a beacon for women of African descent; I would welcome the opportunity to help steward and shape the next chapter of that incomparable legacy.
2. Engagement with Spelman as Advocate, Donor and Volunteer
I truly mean it when I say that I connect with Spelman's past, present, and future. Since 2017, I have served in increasingly more significant roles with the NAASC, from my local chapter, of which I am currently President, to our National Board, on which I serve as the Assistant Corresponding Secretary. I connect with students both through our engagement with the Pre-Alumnae Council, our Goody Bag giveaways, and our New Student Sendoffs. From partnerships with organizations like Estee-Lauder Companies to the Dance Theatre of Harlem, I am always endeavoring to elevate Spelman's profile. Since the program's inception in 2022, I have volunteered as a Leadership Coach in Spelman's partnership with Braven. From the inaugural cohort of students to signing up to volunteer again for this upcoming Fall semester, I have dedicated my time and professional resources to support current Spelman students. I have also been a consistent member of the Spelman Team of Alumnae Recruiters (STARs) at college fairs throughout the five boroughs of NYC and Long Island since 2013. Being able to share the joy of Spelman with prospective students and families has been my pleasure. With NY being one of the top states from which Spelman students hail, it is a labor of love. Finally, not only do I donate to the College directly, often supporting the Spirit of the C'99 Scholarship, which I, along with several classmates, was able to endow, but I also support my local chapter's endowed scholarship and local scholarships to support current students.
3. Personal and Professional Experience
From the moment I crossed the threshold to alumna, I have cultivated professional and personal experiences that will aid me as a member of the Board of Trustees. Professionally, as the Chief of Staff for Human Resources for NYC Public Schools, I have insight into how the largest school system in the country is run. I have served in roles in offices from the Chief Financial Officer to the Division of Contracts and Purchasing, to the Office of Innovation, to the Division of Human Resources. As a Director of Operations, I have managed hundreds of millions of dollars, and as Chief of Staff, I support an agency of 150,000 employees. This insight will be incredibly valuable to the Board. Additionally, having worked as a Management Consultant and holding an MBA in Marketing and Corporate Strategy, I bring a strategic mindset and thoughtful approach to problem-solving. Having worked in government since 2004, I am not unfamiliar with regulations and mandates that might impact our institution. Personally, much of my community service is dedicated to Spelman, from recruitment of prospective students to teaching our current ones. Supporting college tours for my sorority also allows me to see what other institutions of higher education are doing to remain competitive and relevant in an ever-changing educational landscape. Being able to talk to students on a regular basis, I get to see what educational trends are at play, particularly as Spelman continues to fine-tune our academic offerings.
4. Initiatives to Promote Spelman to the Outside Community
Most notably, serving on the Spelman Team of Alumnae Recruiters (STARs), I get to do my best promoting of Spelman College. Whether in the urban environment of NYC's five boroughs or in the suburbs of Long Island, I am able to showcase all that Spelman has to offer as a liberal arts college that is in the business of educating women of African descent. In a state where there are no HBCUs, it is often a high hurdle to showcase the value of not just an HBCU education, but one at an all-women's college. Oftentimes, parents are hesitant to send their children so far from home when there are less expensive local alternatives. When I highlight all that Spelman has to offer, not just as the #1 HBCU, but as a top producer of Black women in STEM, or showcase some of our programs, such as our 3+3 JD programs or some of our Health Careers partnerships, it is a joy to see the tide change. As the President of my NAASC chapter, I have fostered partnerships with Estee-Lauder Companies, who I was able to connect with Spelman as they built out their Cosmetic Chemistry curriculum, but also with the Dance Theatre of Harlem. We were just spotlighted as their named partner during their annual Divine 9/HBCU Night on April 18th, 2026. Anyone who knows me can speak to my love for Spelman. From my apparel to my words, I am always promoting the unique place that is Spelman College.
