Leading Spelman Forward Together

In 1881, Spelman was born from a $100 gift and a mountain of faith. Our founders believed that education was the ultimate act of transformation, even in the most hostile conditions. They didn’t wait for the world to settle; they acted with clarity while it was being rebuilt around them.

"Today, we find ourselves in a 'New Reconstruction.' The global workforce is being redesigned by automation and shifting economic tides, demanding a mastery of technology and a depth of agility that only a Spelman education can provide."  - Rosalind "Roz" Brewer, C'84, Chair Emerita and Interim President (pictured right)

We are working hard to ensure our graduates have the high-demand skills to not only navigate these systems but improve them. We are giving our women the choice to change the world, empowering them as independent thought leaders who don’t just lead change, they define it.

"As stewards of this sacred legacy, the Board of Trustees has launched a different kind of proposition for our future. 'Spelman Forward,' is a historic $500 million campaign to build a more Future Ready Spelman. This is more than a goal. It is a critical response to the world our students will inherit and lead. The campaign is twice the size of our last effort because this moment demands it. Our top priority is to architect a future where a Spelman woman is never tethered by the burden of educational loans." - Lovette Russell, C'83, Chair Spelman Board of Trustees (pictured left)

"Serving at Spelman for more than two decades has taught me that financial stewardship is inseparable from our mission. Every investment we make—from scholarships to academic facilities—creates opportunities for talented students to learn, grow and lead. Ensuring the long-term strength of the College allows Spelman to continue expanding access while preparing the next generation of leaders." - Dawn Alston, Vice President for Business and Financial Affairs and Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer

Spelman’s financial strength, grounded in disciplined stewardship and strategic investment, positions the College to move forward with confidence—supporting continued investment in innovation, access, and long-term impact.
