Alyssa RichardsonAlyssa Chinyere Richardson, C'2026, is a graduating senior, Biochemistry major from Washington, D.C.

A Dovey Johnson Roundtree Presidential Scholar and member of the Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program, she has distinguished herself through endearing sisterhood, academic excellence, meaningful leadership, and vibrant artistic contribution to campus life.

Her matriculation at Spelman has produced a deep commitment to advancing health and well-being within her community. She has served as an active leader and engaged campus participant through the Spelman NAACP Health & Wellness Committee, Spelman NCNW, the Spelman Health Careers Program, My Sister’s Keeper with the Black Women’s Health Imperative, the Spelman Chemistry Club, the Spelman College Glee Club, and the Spelman Sisters Chapel Ashietu African Dance and Drum Ministry. Her work has centered on expanding access to care, supporting young women through mentorship, and creating spaces for thoughtful conversations around health equity on campus and beyond.

Alongside her scientific and leadership pursuits, Alyssa is a trained classical and contemporary vocalist whose artistry has been an important part of her Spelman experience, including work as a featured soloist with the Spelman College Glee Club. She has also been engaged in interdisciplinary biomedical, clinical, global health, and chemistry research across the Atlanta University Consortium and several R1 research institutions, including the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Cape Town, Howard University College of Medicine, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Spelman College.

Following graduation, Alyssa will pursue her Doctor of Medicine degree at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, the nation’s first medical school and an Ivy League institution, on a full-ride scholarship. She endeavors to contribute to the security of high-quality, compassionate care that is accessible to all.
