Generic Spelman Logo 300x300Alexis Renae Sims, C'2026, is a double major in philosophy and political science from Atlanta, Georgia. Her academic and professional interests center on social justice, public policy, civil rights, and community-based advocacy. Because of these interests, she has served as a Fellow and Research Assistant with the Spelman College Social Justice Program, a Fellow of the Georgia Women’s Policy Institute, as well as a Teaching Assistant and Intern with Common Good Atlanta, a community-based organization that brings accredited, college-level courses to system-impacted individuals in Georgia’s prisons.

She is a graduate of the United Nations Millennium Fellowship, and an inductee of several honor societies, including the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, the Phi Sigma Tau International Honor Society in Philosophy, and the Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society. She interned with the Office of U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Georgia Policy & Advocacy Department, and Gideon’s Promise.

In 2023, Alexis re-established Spelman’s Mock Trial Team—the only all-Black women’s team in the nation and one of the few at an HBCU—and has served as its President and Team Captain since that time. She has also competed with the Morehouse College Moot Court Team, the Spelman College Speech and Debate Team, and the Spelman College Model United Nations Team.

As a student deeply committed to global issues, Alexis has studied in Rwanda, Fiji, Italy, China, and Peru. In fall 2026, Alexis will begin a Master of Science Program in International Affairs (Global Development) at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Ultimately, she plans to obtain a Ph.D. in philosophy, get the JD, and practice law in criminal, civil rights, American constitutional, and international human rights contexts.
