Spelman ALERT: Safety Update

A Message from Spelman College Public Safety Department

Dear Spelman Students, Faculty, and Staff,

We are writing to provide you with an important safety update regarding a recent threat report involving the Atlanta University Center Woodruff Library.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Atlanta Police Department (APD) and the Atlanta University Center Public Safety Departments conducted a thorough search of the Woodruff Library and its surrounding areas. Our partners at Clark Atlanta University are working closely with the APD Homeland Security Unit and the FBI, utilizing advanced technology to determine the identity of the individual(s) involved.

We can confirm that the Woodruff Library has been cleared and is now open.

The safety of our entire community is our top priority. As this investigation continues, we ask that you remain vigilant and review the following safety tips:

  • Stay Aware: Always be aware of your surroundings. Report any suspicious activity or unattended items to the Public Safety Department at 404.525.6401.
  • See Something, Say Something: Trust your instincts. If something feels off, do not hesitate to report it.
  • Keep Emergency Contacts Handy: Save the Public Safety Department and local emergency numbers in your phone for quick access.
  • Stay Informed: Monitor official Spelman College or AUCC communications for updates and follow all guidance from safety officials.

We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we work to ensure the continued safety of our campus.

Sincerely,
Spelman Public Safety Department
