WiSTEM Program Eligibility and Participation Requirements

The Women in STEM (WiSTEM) program is only for students who will be enrolled as full-time students at Spelman College in August 2026.

The program continues during the 2026-27 academic year with a residential learning community and continued advising and mentoring. Students MUST complete the housing application by the Spelman housing application deadline (Wednesday, May 8th) to be eligible for on-campus housing.

Application Deadline: Monday, April 20, 2026
Acceptance Notification: Wednesday, May 7, 2026
Program Dates: Sunday, June 7 – Friday, July 17

WiSTEM 2026

WiSTEM Six-Week Summer Bridge Program

Details:
June 7 – July 17, 2026 | Six-week Bridge Program

  • Two courses for credit, one in mathematics (precalculus or calculus) and one in computer programming or English
  • Hands-on work with faculty on applied project modules
  • Enrichment in college preparedness, professional skills, and communication skills
  • The summer program is at no cost to participants. Participants will receive a $500 stipend at the end of the summer

August 2026 – May 2027 | Academic Year Living and Learning Community

  • Preferred housing in a dedicated Living & Learning Community (LLC)
  • Academic advising by program staff and faculty
  • Interaction with mentors in the discipline, especially women of color

Requirements:

  • All program participants are expected to enroll at Spelman College in Fall 2026 in a STEM or economics major. Only students who have deposited will be accepted into WiSTEM.
  • All program participants are expected to reside in the WiSTEM academic year living community
  • Program participants must enroll as a major in one of the listed disciplines: mathematics, computer science, dual degree engineering, physics, chemistry/biochemistry, environmental science, biology, or economics
