About Us

The Spelman College Pre-Health Summer Program (PHSP) is a six-week intensive, residential experience for recently admitted students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. This year, 18 students participated in the program, and they were able to take ownership of this unique experience and reach their personal, academic, and career development goals.

Participants attended thorough and rigorous courses, career development seminars, and peer-tutoring sessions throughout the program to enhance their critical thinking, oral communication, and analytical skills in preparation for their undergraduate pre-health journey. This summer, students took courses in Mathematics, Anatomy and Physiology, Introduction to Health Science, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Public Speaking and Communications, First-Year Experience, and Wellness.

Students also participated in Lunch and Learn sessions each Friday, hosted by Centene Corporation – the sponsor of this year's program. The students also participated in a recruitment trip to Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and Meharry Medical College.
