"Echoes and Algorithms" is Spelman College's signature podcast series hosted by Mark Lee, Ph.D., provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. The podcast, hosted on campus in the Spotify Podcast Studio, explores the intersection of technology, culture, and society through the lens of the liberal arts, featuring engaging conversations with faculty, students, and innovators shaping the future of AI, data science, digital humanities, and liberal arts education.
The series, launched in October 2025, establishes Spelman's voice in critical conversations about technology and its impact on communities of color, women in STEM, and social justice. Each episode offers an opportunity to engage with cutting-edge ideas while staying grounded in Spelman's mission of academic excellence and social transformation.
Episode 1: Artificial Intelligence and Liberal Arts Education
Three Spelman faculty discuss integrating AI into liberal arts education. Topics include preparing future educators with technology (Dr. Nicole Taylor), using digital humanities to reclaim Black women's narratives (Dr. Michelle Hite), and applying intersectional lenses to AI and social justice (Dr. Cynthia Neal Spence). The panel calls for HBCUs to lead in ensuring AI benefits marginalized communities.
