Disobedient Women: Afro-Queer Art and Performance
Join us for the official book launch of Disobedient Women: Afro-Queer Art and Performance in Puerto Rico, by Anastasia Valecce, Ph.D. This event echoes the disobedient research methodology of Dr. Valecce by incorporating experimental performance 'disruptions' by Sydney White and Marquez Turner, as well as a conversation with Aku Kadogo (Theatre & Performance) and T. Lang (Dance Performance & Choreography). You can also purchase a signed copy of the book!

In Disobedient Women, Anastasia Valecce, Ph.D., centers the voices and aesthetics of four Afro-queer Puerto Rican contemporary artists—Gisela Rosario Ramos (Macha Colón), Awilda Rodríguez Lora, Helen Ceballos, and Awilda Sterling-Duprey. Valecce shows how these women have used performance, visual art, and activism to resist colonial, racial, and gender oppression on the archipelago.
