Policies & Procedures
Dedicated to delivering the Spelman promise and enhancing operational effectiveness, the Title IX and Compliance office supports this commitment through institutional compliance and risk management efforts. The Title IX & Compliance office has oversight for the development of institutional policies and related procedures, as well as works in collaboration with other units to promote equity, safety and mitigation of risk.
All forms of harassment and discrimination on the basis of sex, gender identity and expression, pregnancy, religion, creed, color, race, national or ethnic origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, medical condition, physical or mental disability, age, marital status, veteran status, family care leave status, or any other basis prohibited by state or federal law destroy the foundation for respect. Sexual violence and sexual misconduct offenses are a form of sexual harassment and are strictly prohibited by the College.
These policies also prohibit dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking. Retaliation against a person who reports, complains about, or participates in the investigation of a complaint of discrimination or harassment is likewise prohibited.
Atlanta University Center Title IX Coordinators
Spelman College, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College and Morehouse School of Medicine collectively form the Atlanta University Center Consortium (AUCC). Spelman College students and employees, when studying at, visiting or attending a college-related event of another AUCC institution, using the Woodruff Library or its shuttle, will be subject to Spelman College policies as well as the policies of the other campus institution or library.
When the Complainant is a member of the Spelman community, a (Spelman controlled) Resolution process may be available regardless of the status of the Respondent, who may or may not be a member of the Spelman community. The College may, in its discretion, dismiss a formal complaint if the Respondent is not subject to the disciplinary control, or otherwise sanctionable, by the College. For example, the College may be limited in its ability to sanction an individual who is not a student, employee of the College, or otherwise desires ongoing access to the college’s environment. In these instances, the disciplinary action is limited to restricting individuals from campus.
Each campus within the Atlanta University Center has designated a Title IX Coordinator, who is responsible for that institution’s compliance with Title IX. The name and contact information for the other AUCC Title IX Coordinators and websites, where available, are listed below.
