HBCU First Look Film Festival
Spelman College is proud to welcome the HBCU First Look Film Festival: How to Be The Next! College Tour to the Mary Schmidt Campbell Center for Innovation and the Arts on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Doors will open at 1 p.m. for an afternoon celebrating storytelling, social impact, and the power of HBCU voices in film.
Presented by Andscape, the Black Women Film Network, the Social Justice Program, and Scholars Transforming the Academy, this special event will feature:
- Exclusive screenings of top-winning films from the 2025 HBCU First Look Film Festival
- A screening of Andscape’s documentary Hoops, Hopes & Dreams
- Engaging Talk Backs with film and entertainment industry leaders
Hoops, Hopes & Dreams shares the untold story of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and how civil rights activists used basketball courts to mobilize young voters—helping drive the success of President Obama’s historic campaign. Don’t miss this powerful afternoon of film, conversation, and inspiration.
