Spelman Theater and Performance Presents “Single Black Female” and “Seven Spools of Thread”

Spelman Theater and Performance Presents Single Black Female and Seven Spools of Thread

Two Shows. One Season. All the Way Live.

The Spelman Department of Theater and Performance is bringing the heat this spring with not one but two powerful productions — and you do not want to miss either of them. "Single Black Female" by Lisa B. Thompson is a sharp, witty and deeply resonant work that speaks directly to the Black female experience. Directed by Joan McCarty, this one hits different.

"Seven Spools of Thread" is an original musical adapted from the book by Angela Shelf Medearis, with libretto by Desi P. Shelton, music by Jamal Dickerson, and directed by Haki Pratt.

Original design by Camden Repertory Theater; produced by special arrangement with Camden Repertory Theater.

Together, these productions are a love letter to "Black Joy as Resistance" — the theme driving the Spelman theater and performance department's entire 2026 season.
