Atlanta Music Club

On Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 3 p.m., renowned soprano Indra Thomas, celebrated for her powerful voice and moving interpretations, joins pianist Dr. Paula Grissom-Broughton in an afternoon of song presented by the Atlanta Music Club at Friendship Baptist Church. The program will include a variety of art songs, spirituals, and classical repertoire designed to inspire and uplift. Held at Friendship Baptist Church, this concert is free and open to the public, continuing the club’s long-standing tradition of bringing exceptional music to the Atlanta community. This event is free and open to the public.

Indra Thomas, known for her lush and warm voice, has established herself as an artist of incredible sensitivity, poise, and virtuosity. Ms. Thomas’ 2023/24 season started with A Night at the Opera Concert with the Rome Symphony Orchestra in Rome GA; she returned to the Roland Hayes Concert Series at the Harris Theater in Calhoun GA; she returned to The Atlanta Opera’s production of The Anonymous Lover in the role of Dorothy; Performed a recital Love, Light and Loss at Seattle University; perform in the 96 Hour Project Composer’s Competition in collaboration with the Atlanta Opera the piece Faces In The Frames music by Nathan Felix libretto by Anita Gonzales.

She rounds out the summer with community concerts: Juneteenth Jubilee with the Challenge the Stats in collaboration with The Atlanta Opera Outreach Program and Liberty and Justice for All Concert with R. O. M. E. Musical Ensemble Inc. In the Fall of 2023, Ms. Thomas is delighted to be performing Strauss’ Die  Vier Letze Lieder and Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder with the Decatur Symphony Orchestra in Decatur, IL, and debuting in the role of Giulia in Spontini’s La Vestale with Teatro Grattacielo, performed at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater in Manhattan, NY.

Dr. Paula Grissom-Broughton teaches courses related to women, race, and music in the music department. An active scholar and researcher on the subject of race and gender in the music classroom, Grissom-Broughton has presented her research at local and national conferences, including the National Association for Music Education.

Before joining the music faculty at Spelman, Grissom-Broughton taught piano, music history, and music theory at Winston-Salem State University. During her tenure in North Carolina, she was a featured performer for the Focus on Piano Conference at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was also featured at the Winston-Salem Delta Arts Center, where she performed works by Pulitzer Prize-winning George Walker.
