A Woman on the Outside
Join the Spelman Social Justice Fellows Program for a powerful screening of A Woman on the Outside, followed by an in-person discussion with producer and writer Kiara C. Jones and film protagonist Kristal Bush. This compelling documentary captures Kristal’s fight to keep families connected despite the deep impacts of mass incarceration. As a social worker and founder of a van service that helps families visit loved ones in far-off prisons, Kristal embodies resilience and hope. When her father and brother return home, she faces the complex realities of re-entry and freedom in a system built to divide. Both heartfelt and courageous, A Woman on the Outside offers an intimate portrait of love, family, and resistance.
The screening will take place on Sunday, November 2, at 3 p.m. in the Mary Schmidt Campbell Center for Innovation and Arts Theater at Spelman College. Hosted by the Spelman Social Justice Fellows Program, under the direction of Dr. Cynthia Neal Spence, in collaboration with Le Vertical Productions and Unlocked Minds: The Social Justice Entrepreneurship Project.
