The Bible as a Text of Migration

A lecture was held during the "Spring 2026 Lecture Series" with Jacqueline M. Hidalgo, Ph.D. on Thursday, February 26, 2026. Hidalgo is a distinguished Professor of Theology and Religious Studies from the University of San Diego. Hidalgo presented 'The Bible as a Text of Migration' which explores how biblical narratives were forged through the experiences of displacement and movement.

2026 Major & Minor Career Pathway

A professional development workshop was held on January 27, 2026, and was specifically designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and the modern job market for liberal arts students. The workshop was an empowering session intended to show students how to turn their intellectual passions into a viable, high-impact career path.

Angela Davis Philosophy Institute 2025 Symposium Convener

Spelman College welcomed Dr. Qrescent Mason on November 6, 2025. Mason is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Haverford College, for a profound session within the Fall Philosophy Lecture Series. Serving as the 2025 Symposium Convener for the Angela Davis Philosophy Institute.

The Spelman College Fall Philosophy Lecture Series featured Dr. Lindsey Stewart on November 6, 2024. Stewart is a philosopher and associate professor of philosophy from the University of Memphis for a captivating presentation titled 'For the Love of Mermaids: Mami Wata, Marie Laveau, and the Power of Vengeance'.

The Social Determinants of Race-based Trauma and Collective Healing

The Spelman College Spring Religious Studies Lecture Series hosted a profound session with Dr. Sharon Suh on February 22, 2024. Suh is a distinguished scholar from Seattle University and President of the Sakyadhita International Association of Buddhist Women. In her lecture, Dr. Sharon Suh, presented a holistic approach on how addressing race-based trauma is not just a personal struggle but is deeply tied to "social determinants".

Midwifery Today!

Spelman College presented 'Midwifery Today!' featuring renowned midwife and educator Sarahn 'Mama Sarahn' Henderson on October 19, 2023. Henderson shared her extensive expertise in home-birth as a safe alternative to hospital birth, and how midwifery will become a licensed profession in the maternal healthcare system.
