HCOPPP Scholar: Kristen Watts

Championing Global Health 

Spelman HCOPPP Scholar Kristin WattsKristen Watts, C'2027, is a sophomore Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program Scholar and health sciences major from Memphis, Tennessee. As an HCOPPP scholar, she has actively engaged in research and global health experiences to strengthen her pre-medical journey. After her first year at Spelman, she completed the Cancer Research Immersion Student Program at Morehouse School of Medicine, where she researched nutritional insecurities. That same summer, she studied abroad in South Africa with the Health Careers Program to explore global health. This winter, she will be studying abroad in Trinidad and Tobago.

On campus, Watts is deeply involved in leadership and service. She is a Spelman UNCF Ambassador, a Resident Advisor, and a New Student Orientation Leader. She is also a certified phlebotomist and a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. Additionally, she is active in the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students and the Health Careers Club. As an HCOPPP scholar, Watts continues to advance her research and professional development. This summer and throughout the fall semester, she will complete research at Boston University and the American Heart Association, focusing on reproductive health and its link to chronic diseases. Passionate about addressing Black maternal health disparities, she plans to earn a Master’s in Public Health before attending medical school to become an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN) specializing in obstetrics.
