Spelmanites Selected as Rackham Aspiring Fellows

Preston and Chambers Present at University of Michigan

Spelmanites Dominique Preston, C'2027 and Parker Chambers, C'2026,were two of only six students selected nationwide for the highly competitive Rackham Aspiring Fellows Program at the University of Michigan. The prestigious yearlong fellowship is designed to prepare undergraduates for post doctorate degrees.

"The Rackham Aspiring Fellows program pairs fellows with faculty from the University of Michigan and their home institution to serve as co-mentors on a student’s year-long research project culminating in an on-campus research presentation in spring," stated the program coordinators.

Preston and Chambers successfully presented their original research at U of M this spring. Preston’s project examined the environmental injustice of Black beauty, while Chambers' research explored the impact of Medicaid expansion on healthcare utilization and self-reported health in young adults.

Their participation in this distinguished program reflects the academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to social impact that define the Spelman experience.
