Bailey Rogers, C'2023, an economics major, management and organization minor at Spelman, is enjoying a 10-week, $10,000 paid internship in New York at Richard Bernstein Advisors, the macro-focused investment manager that is now among the largest exchange traded fund strategists in the country.
In her role, Rogers rotates among each of RBA’s departments to gain exposure to all the aspects of the asset management industry.
The Greenville, South Carolina native is a member of the "Sweet" Mu Pi chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., and the internal co-chair of Sisters Keeping it Real Through Service (SKIRTS). She is also a member of the Future Business Leaders at Spelman, The National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the Omicron Delta Epsilon Honor Society.
“Spelman has pushed me to be the best version of myself, and to excel in everything that I do," said Rogers.
In addition to her work at Spelman, Bailey has engaged in numerous professional development activities beyond the College's gates. She has a certificate of readiness from Harvard Business School in financial accounting, business analytics, and economics for managers. Additionally, she is taking a commercial real estate course through Cornell University.
"The economics courses I have taken while at Spelman have prepared me to analyze the macroeconomic data that I am working on during my internship,” said Rogers. In addition to her summer internship, she is the recipient of a $25,000 RBA scholarship and may possibly be afforded an opportunity to continue her internship remotely from Atlanta in the fall.
“I would like to thank Dr. Marionette Holmes, chair of the economics department, for teaching me early on that the opportunities within the field of economics are endless. I would also like to thank Professor Suneye Holmes, for bringing her passion to every course that she has taught me, and for always stressing the importance of being a dynamic thinker.”
Spelman, through a partnership with Richard Bernstein Advisors, created a new scholarship to combat the issues of diversity in the asset management industry in the fall of 2020. The scholarship was designed to help promote diversity at RBA and in the overall asset management industry.
“Through this innovative combination of scholarship and internship, we hope to immediately play a leading and significant role enhancing diversity in the asset management industry,” said Richard Bernstein, founder and CEO of RBA in the September 28, 2020 release.
“We don’t simply want to discuss diversity. We want RBA to be a catalyst for meaningful and lasting change by giving students the educational and professional experiences needed to launch successful careers.”
As a RBA intern, Rogers is learning a great deal about the firm's $15.7 billion dollar ETF multi-asset strategies, assisting in macroeconomic research to identify key market fundamentals, attending sales meetings, and sharing ideas regarding clients and prospects.
"This internship is allowing me to learn more about the field of asset management, and if I want to pursue work in this field after graduation, said Rogers.
