Louisiana Arts Summit Keynote Speakers

Date: Oct 4-6, 2023

Location: Cary Saurage Community Arts Center,
233 Saint Ferdinand St.
Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70802

T. Lang is the TLD Artistic Director, Associate Professor and Inaugural Chair of Spelman College’s Dance Performance and Choreography department, and will be giving a keynote at this year's Louisiana Arts Summit, along with Arts Alliance Illinois Executive Director Claire Rice and Garlia Cornelia Jones.

Hear how T. Lang Dance is building a sustainable Arts Ecology in the southeast through dance, technology, & innovation. T. Lang Dance will discuss how she has made a life in the historically underfunded Southern Arts Region and how she is creating a roadmap for others to do the same. Her talk will be framed by the Lucille Clifton poem.

There is a well-known saying in many creative spaces that “Necessity is the Mother of All Invention.” It is meant to put a positive spin on the lack of funding, resources, and institutional support that often comes with trying to get new ideas off the ground - roadblocks that are usually worse for those of us in the South or from marginalized backgrounds. Innovation does come from the basic desire to fill a need but it should not be torturous or demoralizing.

Registration for this three-day statewide conference, hosted by the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge and Louisiana Division of the Arts, is now open!
