Protections for Pregnant & Parenting Students

Title IX of Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex including pregnancy, childbirth, false pregnancy, termination of pregnancy, or recovery from any of these conditions and prohibits a school from applying any rule concerning a student's actual or potential parental, family, or marital status which treats students differently on the basis of sex.

Spelman College is committed to creating and maintaining a community where all individuals enjoy freedom from discrimination, including discrimination on the basis of sex, as mandated by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.

Harassment by any member of the Spelman College community based on sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, or parental status is prohibited. Students, faculty and staff who have experienced any incident of sexual of harassment or discrimination can report an incident here or can schedule a meeting with the Title IX & Compliance Staff.

If you would like to schedule a meeting to speak with the Title IX & Compliance staff, we encourage members of the community to utilize the Request a Meeting form. Requesting a meeting is different from reporting an incident.
