Award Description: Camille Young, 2023-2024 Recipient of the White House HBCU Scholar Award. This prestigious award is granted to current HBCU students who demonstrate excellent academic achievement, proven leadership through civic and campus engagement, and those who have a keen sense of entrepreneurial ethos (pursues new opportunities). For the entire academic year, she will serve as a representative of Spelman College to the White House HBCU Initiative, as she advocates for issues targeting her community. From September 25th- September 29th, Camille attended the National HBCU Week in Washington, D.C.

While at Spelman, Young has been heavily involved in the Spelman community. She is a member of the Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program and was accepted into Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Currently, she serves as vice president of Spelman Ambassadors and a mentor for Gifted Girls of Grace.

Additionally, Young is a member of the Morehouse-Spelman Pre-Law Society and a member of Scholars of Finance. This past summer, she went to Barcelona, Spain through the World Languages & Cultures department, and participated in Spelman’s study abroad program. Last year, she held the position of class justice for the Sophomore Class Council, where she not only ensured compliance under the SSGA Constitution, but she also was a member of the student conduct board and assisted the Chief Justice and Dean of Students with proceedings.

Lastly, Young has maintained a 4.0 GPA and Dean’s List standing throughout her academic career.
