Class Day

2022 Spelman College Class Day

Class Day and March Through the Alumnae Arch are two of the College’s most treasured traditions. During March Through the Arch, alumnae ceremoniously welcome graduates into alumnaehood with jubilation after marching through the Arch for the first time. This year was especially sacred, as the classes of 2020 and 2021 marched through the arch for the first time as well.

Class of 2022 Stories

  • Spelman College Salutatorian Jamie Crawford
“I was molded by Spelman to be ambitious, adaptable and self-aware” are the words Salutatorian Jamie Crawford chooses to describe her journey from the moment she entered Spelman College as a first-year student to today as she serves as salutatorian of the graduating class of 2022.
  • Spelman College Valedictorian Taylor Dews
On May 15, 2022, at the Spelman Commencement of the Class of 2022, Taylor Dews of Chesapeake, Virginia will receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Anthropology with a minor in Spanish. She will also be recognized as one of five valedictorians in the Class of 2022, a first in the history of commencements at Spelman College.
  • Spelman College Valedictorian Asja Woodard
On May 15, 2022, Asja Woodard will receive recognition as one of five valedictorians of the graduating class of 2022. This will not be the first time she will receive recognition for her excellence as a student. She also graduated as valedictorian of her high school class in Omaha, Nebraska. However, it will be the first time her achievement as a student will be content for a national story about five students at Spelman, a historically Black college for women that inspires students to achieve, even during a national pandemic.
