Chevrolet logoWJZA Smooth Jazz 101/100 and Chevrolet’s 2022 HBCU Scholarship has been presented to Spelman students Kennedy Dunning and Ansley Bentley, C’2024. This scholarship awards extraordinary, community-oriented students with $2,500 each to ease some financial pressures and inspire students to focus on their undergraduate academic pursuits – and beyond.

During brief interviews with WJZA on-air personality Art Terrell, Dunning and Bentley shared their excitement as recipients. As a documentary filmmaking major with a minor in women’s studies and plans to relocate to Hollywood after graduation, Dunning understands the value of the community’s support to keep inspiring her goals past Spelman’s gates.

"Being a young creative and being a young Black woman, sometimes it’s hard to find opportunities to make money and support yourself," said Dunning. "It makes me feel…more secure in my career options and more secure in what I chose to do when I leave Spelman College."

A future educator and currently a mathematics major with a secondary education minor, Bentley displays her excitement for the important role Spelman plays in producing some of the country’s most creative innovators.

"I absolutely love Spelman. I love everything it’s about," said Bentley. "I love how they’re producing Black leaders, change agents and that’s what I want to do."
