As an
Achieve Atlanta scholar and ambassador, Marlina Simmons, C’2020, believes she is in a unique position to help her Spelman sisters.
Achieve Atlanta provides financial and academic support to graduates of Atlanta public high schools through $5,000 scholarships that are renewable annually, provided the students maintain a 3.0 grade point average.
In her role as an ambassador, Simmons, a
political science major, serves as a mentor for first-year Achieve Atlanta scholars at Spelman. Currently, there are 29 Achieve Atlanta scholars at Spelman. She discusses with them their strengths and weaknesses, and provides input on how they can improve their study habits, organization skills and priorities.
“Achieve Atlanta has allowed me to receive while also giving back to my sisters,” said Simmons. “With determination, hard work, and dedication, success is inevitable.”
Simmons was recently spotlighted in the October 2018 Achieve Atlanta e-newsletter.
