Taylor Brigman Shines as an Intern on Capitol Hill

Spelman Student Taylor Brigman Interns on Capitol HillTaylor Brigman, C'2026, a sophomore political science major with a minor in economics on the pre-law track at Spelman, spent her winter break on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. The Alexandria, Virginia native said her internship with U.S. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) was transformative. "I had the privilege of delving into the inner workings of the legislative process and gaining a firsthand understanding of the efforts and dedication that go into policymaking," Brigman added. Working alongside Senator Kaine’s team, I witnessed the passion and commitment driving every decision on Capitol Hill.  The experience has deepened my appreciation for the complexities of public service and the tireless work undertaken to impact our nation positively," she said. 

According to the Senate employment office website, "Senate internships, fellowships, and clerkships offer an excellent opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain exposure to the daily operations of a Senate office, develop professional skills, and build their network on Capitol Hill.

"Every day, I had the chance to contribute to discussions on crucial issues, from healthcare to education and beyond.  Engaging with constituents, attending hearings, and collaborating with professionals in the field provided a holistic view of the intricate dynamics that shape our nation’s policies, said Brigman who also served as a communications intern for the National Women's Political Caucus and is an executive board member, director of student outreach for the Spelman College Chapter of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International.

"As I reflect on this experience, I carry with me a profound sense of responsibility and a commitment to actively pursuing a better future," said Brigman. "I’m excited to leverage the knowledge and skills gained during this internship in my continued journey to contribute meaningfully to the world around me."
